Today there are various techniques to accommodate your desired result and with the rise in popularity of non-invasive Aesthetic procedures allows for some people opt for a non-permanent solution.

Dr Chris Snijman loves performing facelift surgery! The reason being is that Dr Chris Snijman has always stayed abreast of the latest facelift techniques and developed a few of his own. This means that your specific facelift surgery will be performed using methods applicable to you and your desired result*.

What is Facelift Surgery?

Facelift surgery is, in a nutshell, the removal of excess skin in the face and the repositioning of fat-pads and ligaments in the cheeks. This does not mean there is only one-way to perform the surgery or that you will require the full extent of the surgery. A consultation with Dr Chris Snijman will put you at ease regarding your surgical approach matching your desired aesthetic result.

How is Facelift Surgery performed?

The surgery lasts between 90 and 120 minutes.

The intricacies may vary, but in general, an incision is made around the ear and hidden within the hairline. Then, using specific suture techniques, Dr Chris Snijman will reposition ligaments and fat pads to reshape your face. Once this step is completed the excess skin and fat is removed, drains are inserted and your facelift surgery is complete.

The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and usually lasts between 90 and 120 minutes.

Of course this is just a general idea and your surgery will be specific to your:

  • Age
  • Expected aesthetic outcome
  • Skin quality
  • Existing facial state

You will spend the night in hospital, to ensure you are comfortable for your initial hours post-surgery. The drains will be removed within 24-48 hours and you will be sent home with sufficient pain relief.

What is the recovery?

Recovery actually starts before surgery begins, some recovery tips are:

  • Do not smoke (if you are a smoker, no smoking for 6 weeks prior and 6 weeks post-surgery)
  • Do not take blood thinning medication (alcohol is a blood thinner)

These “do not’s” will allow for faster healing and better-oxygenated blood flow reduces complication risk*. These complications will be discussed in detail during your consultation. Dr Chris Snijman will ensure you are happy and comfortable with the procedure and your decision.

In most cases, you can return to work within a week and the final result will be visible after 3 to 4 weeks* when the swelling and bruising subside.

Are there alternatives?

Yes, in some cases facelift surgery is unavoidable but in many cases Dr Chris Snijman will use Aesthetic Medicine to try avoid going under the knife, or at least give you some idea of the expected facelift result.
