The choice to undergo Breast Reconstruction is yours and yours alone. What Dr Chris Snijman wants you to know is that if you so choose to undergo the process he will be there for you every step of the way.

Make no mistake Breast Reconstruction is a lengthy process and one of the most important factors through the process is working with a surgeon you know, like and trust – you will be together often. Dr Chris Snijman has created an environment of relaxed confidence where you can be yourself.

Many factors influence your breast reconstruction options:

  • Future treatment – i.e. radiation
  • Type of mastectomy
  • Tissue donor sites vs. implant reconstruction
  • Preferred type of reconstruction

Reconstruction duration

In most cases you will require a few surgeries to complete the process, here is a rough guideline:

  • Tissue expanders are inserted – to expand the skin and tissue to allow space for an implant or donor site
  • Expanders are inflated by Dr Chris Snijman within the rooms – these are 5 minute check up’s
  • Once expansion is complete you will be back in theatre to remove the expander and replace it with either tissue or an implant
  • Case specific you will need to recover from the surgery, then return to theatre for nipple reconstruction

Breast Reconstruction is covered by medical aid

This whole process will last a few months to a minimum of a year* and follow up care for 3 years thereafter.

There is without doubt, too much detail to get into all the various facets of Breast Reconstruction surgery; however, you will receive the best care he can give to support you through the process.
