Reshape your breasts post weight loss or pregnancy

Reshape your breasts

Often when patients visit Dr Chris Snijman for Breast Augmentation surgery, they actually need a Breast Lift. If you are simply looking to regain your shape post weight loss or pregnancy without wanting to add size then a Breast Lift could be an option for you*.

Who needs a Breast Lift?

A Breast Lift is the reshaping of the breast by removing excess skin to improve sagging of ptotic (sagging) breasts. There are many reasons for ptosis in the breast:

  • Weight fluctuations
  • Pregnancy
  • Gravity
  • Breast feeding

These causes create certain problems that a Breast Lift may be able to address*  i.e. sagging breasts, enlarged areolas and tubular shaped breasts.

Tell me about the surgery?

Breast Lift Surgery takes approximately 90 minutes.

The most common incision during Breast Lift surgery is the anchor scar – the scar runs inside the inframamary fold, then vertically to the nipple and then around the nipple.

Once the incision is complete excess skin and tissue is removed and the nipple is replaced to the correct position. Because of this incision, often the nipple can be resized during the surgery too.

There are other scar options available but they will be discussed during the consultation.

Breast Lift Surgery takes place under general anaesthetic and last approximately 90 minutes.

What are the risks?

There are no significant risks involved with Breast Lift surgery, other than scarring*. Scars will be discussed in detail during the consultation process with Dr Chris Snijman, especially as there are some very effective treatments on the market today.

Going home

Following Breast Lift surgery you will be sensitive and sore for a few days*, and will be required to wear a sports bra for support. As with all cosmetic procedures, you will not be allowed to do any heavy lifting for at least 2 weeks post op and you will need some assistance with your daily chores and driving.

The final result will be shapelier breasts* once the swelling and bruising has subsided.

Combination treatment

In many cases patients also ask for some breast enlargement and/or additional volume in the upper pole of the breast. In this case, Dr Chris Snijman will perform a Breast Augmentation procedure in combination with Breast Lift to add volume and reshape the breast together.
